Nimslo JeepNimslo Jeep

I was cleaning out grungy old packing material (I buy, repair/restore, and sell a lot of gear regularly to help with rent/utilities/life/etc.), and was tossing a huge pile of stuff into recycling, when suddenly, a roll of film dropped to the floor. No idea how long this lost set was buried among the peanuts.. The negatives were pretty badly scratched, but I’m glad I didn’t lose these Nimslo gems.

The Hill
The Hill

Being trapped in med school prevents me from enjoying sunlight and good company, heading to the hospital as the sun rises and leaving as it sets… seeing friends by night, refueling with caffeine by day.

There are so many things I want to do.. but they have to happen slowly. Especially photography. I need months to take photos, months to wait for an open day to develop film, months to slowly scan my negatives, and months to organize, print, and post.. I’m still building a camera I designed last year… about half way done now. (You’re highly encouraged to play with film and chemistry; painting with light is infinitely more fun than pushing a shutter button.)

A police car spontaneously combusted on 94.. the Weinermobile was prepared, and the folks on the train were as excited as they were hungry. (Vertical banding due to moving rapidly while the film turret was turning.)

(Above are three shots I recently scanned from a roll I took over the course of last year…)

I’m sure I’ll post more eventually..

Taking a break from studying today (for tests on Thurs and Mon…), I spent most of the afternoon digging through my endless pile of hard drives.. I deleted over 2TB worth of random old stuff, and found a bunch of fun photos I’d completely forgotten I had taken.

Even though this one actively creeps me out when I look at it, I think it’s a rather fantastic shot:

A lot has happened since I last posted here.. I’ve repaired a few more cameras and was recently given a very generous gift. An extremely kind artist offered me his broken wide format Epson printer because he believed I could repair it and put it to good use. After creating a few tools from straws, plastic tubing, gaff tape, tongue depressors, etc. and after buying a number of random spare parts, I’ve managed to get it up and running, albeit at the expense of nearly all the remaining ink.

That means exciting things are coming in the future. Provided I can find a way to buy ink and still afford to eat, I’ll be printing some epic panoramic shots I’ve taken with my beloved Widelux F7, along with some really neat shots I’ve taken with my recently restored 1932 Rolleiflex Standard 621.

Who knows, maybe there’ll be a way for folks to see my photos in person sometime relatively soon… I’ll keep you posted. (Though, relatively is a stretchable term, seeing as it pertains to my perspective on time.)

For now, enjoy my favorite shot from my first roll on the Rolleiflex:

Ghost Plows

“Ghost Plows”

1932 Rolleiflex Standard 621, Lomo 400ASA 120 film, CanoScan 9900F

I did not alter the colors… but I think the coolness is an artifact of my terrible scanner. This was a shot to test the accuracy of the taking lens’s ability to focus after my complete CLA repair of this epic camera. Not bad for the first roll through…

Cheers,
Andrew

I recently explored the Indiana Dunes. After a failed attempt at sand surfing with an apparently for-water-only boogie board (who’da thought..), I snapped this shot of a friend struggling to escape from the deathly clutches of his seemingly ravenous t-shirt.. I quite enjoy this one, especially the title I gave it. 🙂

Nice Curves

I’m about to embark on my last summer vacation ever (or for at least a short eternity). I plan to take lots of photos, and I might even share one or two… eventually.

Until then…

Cheers,
Andrew
